30 Achievements in 30 Years

  1. I bore a child meaning I am a fertile woman and have done my job in “going forth and multiplying”

  2. I not only bore a child, but am raising him as normal as a single mom possibly could. My son is as insane as I am. You know how you think of your children as the personification of your id? As in you want him to be everything you weren’t, to use all his non-academic talents like acting or singing or dancing or getting into sports? I really hope that happens to Cojie. (To be a singing and dancing basketball player with a TV show! Like Benjie Paras!)

  3. I’m a single mom. I think of it as an asset, not a liability. I work in an environment of single moms. If there’s one thing we all have in common, it’s determination.

  4. I think my parents respect me. I believe you’ve reached a peak in your life when you’ve gained the trust and respect of your parents despite the stupid things you’ve done.

  5. I have real friends. Real friends, you know? Friends who actually think about me. Friends who find time to check up on me. Friends who ask me for my opinion. And follow my advice (and screws up their life…. kidding).

  6. I don’t think I have any enemies. That I know of. Nobody’s trying to kill me. I think.

  7. I have 200++ friends on my Friendster list, 99% of which I’m sure I’ve had at least one conversation with.

  8. I received about 70 birthday texts on my birthday. So that ain’t too bad.

  9. I have a decent paying job and I’m able to provide for my family and some minor luxuries. (Like oatmeal and Gatorade).

  10. Speaking of jobs, I know I always bitch about work, but you have to admit, it’s cool working for a TV station. (Kapuso… makulay ang buhay….). So that’s great too.

  11. Also at work, I think people trust me. (I don’t know why, really. They should know better haha). I think I’m doing real service back there.

  12. I’ve had…. a couple of relationships — all hetero. Although they all ended haha.

  13. Corollary to no.12, the fact that I’ve had a couple of relationships proves that this face and body I’ve been lagging around for thirty years is attractive to AT LEAST five men who walked this earth (seven if you count the … unofficial ones). My only fear is that seven is my lifetime quota.

  14. I lost 30 lbs by the time I’m thirty. My weight is 130. My waistline is 30.

  15. I’m 30 and I still have a full head of hair.

  16. I’m fairly healthy. Physically. My mental state is like an entertaining neurosis.

  17. I can still dance at thirty. You guys from grade school and high school remember how I’d jump at every dance opportunity? I still do that.

  18. I’ve read all seven books of Harry Potter, all three books of Hannibal Lecter, all four books by Dan Brown and everything Jessica Zafra has ever written.

  19. I completed the DVDs of my favorite shows: The X-files, Friends, That 70’s show, CSI:NY.

  20. I’ve been published: on Mr. & Ms. (the better versions, not the current ones), on Inquirer, on a US-based Filipino newspaper and on my Friendster blog which is a hoot.

  21. I am BRILLIANT in MS Excel. It’s a known fact. I’m not bragging. That first sentence is a statement. Don’t roll your eyes.

  22. I live in a nice house. We rent this house but my dream is that we’d be able to buy it from our landlord. It’s a really simple house. I love it despite its nuances, like the twenty or thirty holes in our roof (we have timba monuments around the house), the really small yard, the badly painted walls, the doors that don’t lock, the nosy neighbors (“Uy, payat mo na a.”, “Pano ka pumayat?”, “Bakit ka nagpapayat?”,  “Ano iniinom mo para pumayat?”)

  23. I’ve traveled.  To Baguio, Olongapo, Batangas, Laguna, Quezon, Pangasinan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Bataan, Korea (for 2 hours in the airport) and US. I kinda skipped Visayas and Mindanao and went straight towards foreign land.

  24. I can still play guitar. Although I’ve never gone beyond my nauseating “Huwag Na Lang Kaya” (to which my friends would retort “Wala ka na bang alam na ibang kanta??!!”)

  25. I understand basic German and Spanish. I can also speak basic German and Spanish. Ich verstehen nicht.

  26. I can drive. And by drive I mean the mechanics of the driving system of a vehicle (Stick on Neutral. Left foot clutch, right foot gas. Ignition. Slowly release clutch to make way for gas. Pray.) I’ve never driven on the road and I’ve never had a license, though.

  27. I can cook, and I’d like to think I cook quite well. Because my mom always makes me cook. (Either that or she doesn’t like cooking).

  28. On the eve of my 30th birthday (which was just last Friday), I sang and danced onstage with a band in Aruba,Tomas Morato. Thank God for margaritas.

  29. As I was cleaning out my stuff the other day, I found my gradeschool and highschool medals. I have seven 2nd honor silver medals, two gold quiz bee medals, two bronze honorable mention medals, and one gold medal for an inter-company competition during my CAT days in highschool. They’re all stuffed in a shoebox now.

  30. I’m hanging on.
